The OHSU-PSU collaborative School of Public Health is an innovative structure, in which we bring the best of two universities to you. With five specialized Health Studies concentrations and two minors, we provide you with specialty training and a core foundation in public health that positions you to excel in the career path you seek.

Our School Health concentration is a pre-licensure program, preparing you according to state guidelines for “best practices” in school health education. School health educators teach in middle school and high school settings covering a variety of topics from safety to preventive health behaviors and decision-making. Upon completion of the bachelor degree (BA/BS), you will be eligible to apply to the fifth-year Graduate Teacher Education Program or the Secondary Dual Education Program in the Graduate School of Education at PSU.

The Graduate Certificate in Project Management prepares engineers and scientists for leadership in project management in high-tech industry, research labs, construction, advanced manufacturing, and software. Project managers lead complex technical projects from start to successful completion, ensuring the work is done on time, within budget, and according to the agreed-upon scope and standards. They act as the central coordinator, connecting the project sponsor’s vision with the technical team's execution. Responsibilities include defining project scopes and project organizations, creating detailed plans for workflows, budgets, and timelines, managing resources and risks, leading the project team, and maintaining communication with all stakeholders.

The certificate covers core principles of project management for different types of projects - from construction to software - and introduces methods and tools for planning, estimating, scheduling, risk assessment, and project tracking, including approaches involving artificial intelligence. Students explore how software delivery practices (e.g., Agile and Scrum) impact general project management and are applicable for hardware, construction, and AI deployment projects. 

To earn their certificate, students must complete 16 credits. This helps them apply skills quickly in their careers or pursue further education.

Relationship counseling isn’t just for married couples. It is not offered solely to people from certain racial, social, and economic demographics. To be an excellent relationship and family counselor, you must have a research and practical background with a diversity of marriage, partnership, relationship, and family compositions.

In the Marriage, Couple, and Family Counseling (MCFC) program, focus on equity and relational diversity as you learn the skills needed for effective systemic assessment and intervention in the counseling process. MCFC answers the simple questions “How do I become a family counselor?” and “How do I become a marriage counselor?” with an inclusive, thoughtful response that has a real impact on the community.

Program completion can lead to state licensure as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC).

Program objectives

PO1: Graduates will demonstrate skills and competencies for the practice of marriage, couple, and family counseling to address client issues through relational, systems, and family systems theoretical lenses.

PO2: Graduates will demonstrate skills and competencies necessary for the practice of marriage, couple, and family counseling, including using preventive, developmental, social, cultural, and wellness approaches in working with individuals, couples, families, and other systems such as premarital counseling, parenting skills training, and relationship enhancement.

PO3: Graduates will demonstrate skills and competencies for the practice of marriage, couple, and family counseling, including applying ethical models and diagnostic and assessment procedures from a systems perspective as part of comprehensive treatment planning and case management services.

Art practice is the exploration of studio art experiences and processes with an emphasis on developing your own creative vision. Our program goes beyond the physical activities of making to include idea generation, influences, materials, tools and methods. We offer an interdisciplinary approach with an emphasis on current trends in contemporary art. The degree requires you to engage extensively with 2D, 3D, and 4D processes.

Our bachelor of fine arts degree in art practice provides you with the knowledge and skills designed to prepare you for a fulfilling career as a practicing artist. It’s a flexible degree that allows you to design an individual path of study based on your interests and goals. We strive to acquaint you with fundamental concepts while nurturing your own unique vision.

A good option for students who have the interest and capacity to devote a significant amount of time toward the development of their art practice. This program generally takes four years to complete.

You will start off in our innovative Core courses, which offers you the foundational toolkit you'll need to succeed. Core courses foster community and excitement for the diverse ways we engage in creative life and provide learning situations that open up those possibilities. The program includes a year-long thesis project that culminates in a public exhibition and artist talk.

We also offer an Art & Design major which is a great option for students who need a more flexible degree path with fewer requirements.

Our faculty, who are all active makers as well as educators, will mentor you along your path in small classes with frequent one-on-one instruction. As you progress as an art practice major, you will experience a variety of traditional media including painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, sculpture, and textiles. But you might also be intrigued by time-based arts that have a durational dimension, such as film, video, sound, and performance art.

We are leaders in the pioneering field of Art + Social Practice. Instead of making art as objects, this field focuses on collaborative experiences and interaction between the artist and cultural systems through activism and social engagement.

Technology is a driver of innovation, competitive advantage, and business growth in most industries. But rapid transformations, such as artificial intelligence, are difficult to navigate. The Graduate Certificate in Strategic Technology Management focuses on aligning technology initiatives with strategic organizational goals in diverse organizations, from high-tech companies to government. Students learn how to  forecast technologies and their future performance, understand how technology can serve their strategic mission, decide  when and where to invest in new technology and what technologies to replace, and adjust organizational structures, processes, and assets to their technology strategy.  

Students can earn this graduate certificate with just 16 credits. This lets them quickly apply new skills in their jobs or use it as a step toward more studies.

Our graduate program prepares professionals to work with a variety of clients within mental health agencies, community counseling agencies, employee assistance programs, day treatment, and inpatient hospital settings, and private practice.

Our master’s degree is organized around core foundation courses, an intensive on-campus practicum training clinic experience, interpersonal growth experiences, advanced theory and practice courses, and a culminating half-time field internship placement.

Our program consists of 90 graduate credits designed to meet CACREP national accreditation standards for professional counselors and the academic degree requirements to become licensed as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Oregon and other states.

Program objectives

PO1: Graduates will demonstrate skills and competencies related to foundational concepts of clinical mental health including: relevant history, theories, diagnosis and treatment planning, etiology of substance use and mental health concerns, and psychological assessment.

PO2: Graduates will demonstrate skills and competencies necessary for understanding the roles and functions of a clinical mental health counselor across a variety of mental health settings and with a diverse population of communities in accordance with legally and ethically sound modalities.

PO3: Graduates will demonstrate skills and competencies of practice by actively participating in direct clinical service, consultation, and clinical supervision.

Our undergraduate students interact with faculty who have expertise in a wide variety of areas. Faculty are committed to teaching, providing opportunities for hands-on learning and helping students succeed. The department has an economics lab where undergraduate students can get tutoring support from graduate teaching assistants during the academic year.

Our program prepares graduates to work in a wide variety of vocational rehabilitation, mental health, and educational settings with individuals who are emotionally, socially, and vocationally adjusting to the disability experience.

PO2: Graduates will demonstrate skills and competencies necessary for the contextual dimensions of rehabilitation counseling practice, focusing on the following as it relates specifically to people with disabilities: case management, continuums of care, biopsychosocial adjustment, occupational and vocational analysis, legislation and policy, multicultural counseling competencies, and legal and ethical practice.

PO3: Graduates will demonstrate skills and competencies of clinical rehabilitation counseling practice, including: career and diagnostic assessment practices; advocacy for people with disabilities; strategies for interdisciplinary and collaborative work; and strategies to educate employers, educators, and families on disability accommodations and relevant legislation.
