The Department of Counselor Education operates a Community Counseling Clinic that gives counseling students experience working with clients, while offering the community low-cost counseling services. Our counselors are practicum students and interns under expert supervision by licensed and/or board-certified faculty.
The PSU Community Counseling Clinic provides low-cost individual, relationship, and family counseling, including services for children and adolescents. Sessions are by appointment only, and appointments are provided on both day and evening schedules. Sessions occur on a weekly basis, at the same day and time. The Clinic does not offer medication management, psychological testing or assessment, or mental health crisis services.
The clinic provides individual, couple, and family counseling to community members, students, families, and others at affordable rates.
$15 per session.
Reduced fees can be negotiated in cases of financial hardship.

All sessions are by appointment only. All of our appointments are scheduled over the phone. Please call the clinic at 503-725-4620 to start the process.
Clinic staff will ask you questions about yourself and your present concerns to ensure that a counselor is available to meet your needs. We will then schedule a date and time for your first appointment depending on availability. Please note that we are a partially-staffed clinic, and therefore, it may take up to 3 days for staff to get back to you.
Reception and scheduling: Monday-Thursday 10am-7pm
Sessions are provided Monday-Friday on a weekly basis, same time and day every week.
During your initial appointment, you will meet your counselor and get more information about the clinic and the counseling process. The counselor will also begin to ask you questions about your reasons for seeking counseling.
During the next couple of sessions the counselor will get to know more about you and your concerns, and will work with you to develop a service plan.
Once the plan has been developed, you and the counselor will work together to implement the plan and monitor your progress to ensure that you are getting the results you want.
Because we are a training clinic, counseling sessions are always supervised. Each counseling room has one-way glass that allows a supervisor to observe the session in order to support and give feedback to the counselor. We also videotape each session so counselors can review their performances and develop their skills. The videotapes are treated as confidential information and only used for supervision purposes. Once the tape has been reviewed it is erased.
Our clinic is located in the Fourth Avenue Building on the Portland State University campus. The College of Education is located on the third floor at 1900 SW 4th Avenue, on the corner of SW Harrison and SW 4th Avenue.
The Community Counseling Clinic does not accept walk-ins, but you can contact the clinic at 503-725-4620 to coordinate services.
