Jeff has been teaching at Portland State University since 2004. They began teaching in the Applied Linguistics department, and in 2014, joined the faculty in the Speech and Hearing Science department. They currently are the Undergraduate & Postbac Advisor for the SPHR department.Their main lingusitic interests are Phonetics, Phonology, Historical Linguistics and Sociolinguistics, particularaly language and gender. They are also interested in dialects and accents of English, especially of the Pacific Northwest of the US. Clinically, Jeff is a licensed and certified SLP, and has worked mostly with adult populations in Skilled Nursing Facilities. They have supervised graduate and undergraduate student clinicains here at PSU in the Accent Instruction Clinic. Recently, Jeff has supervised graduate students working in the Gender Communication Lab at PSU. This experience offers gender diverse individuals a safe and hands-on space to learn, practice and incorporate aspects of gender communication to increase comfort and satisfaction between their gender identity and gender communicaiton presentation.
