As a media and communication scholar, I investigate the multifaceted relationship between sports and contemporary society. My research delves into the cultural significance of sports mega-events, the shifting landscape of fandom, and the increasing influence of technology on all aspects of sport. I analyze sport as both a product and a powerful producer of cultural, social, political, economic, technological, and environmental forces. Complementing this work, I also examine the mediated construction of place, exploring how various voices shape our understanding of place. My research in this area includes the role of sport in place-making, as well as broader investigations into place branding, tourism, and the impact of social media on urban imaginaries. I am committed to fostering active learning in my classrooms, encouraging student-led discussions, independent research, and rigorous theoretical engagement, preparing students for both academic and professional success.
