Mary Marshall, Ph.D., CPA (Louisiana) received a dual-BS in Accounting and Management from Oklahoma State University, a Master of Accountancy from Wichita State University, a Master of Public Administration from Wichita State University, and her PhD from the University of South Carolina. Before joining Portland State University in 2022, Marshall taught financial accounting and income tax courses at Louisiana Tech University. She has work experience in corporate accounting, public accounting, and public budgeting. She primarily teaches Accounting 421 (taxation) at PSU.

Mary conducts experimental and survey research on how individuals make decisions with and about tax information. Her research is primarily focused on how taxpayers respond to tax authority policies and procedures. She is also interested in understanding the early career experience in public accounting, which informs firm policy while also helping her prepare her students for future careers. Her work is published in The Journal of the American Taxation Association and Accounting Horizons and has been presented to several national and international audiences, including invitations to the IRS's annual summer research conference.
