Dr. Gerald Recktenwald is an Associate Professor in the Mechanical and Materials Engineering Department in the Maseeh College of Engineering & Computer Science at Portland State University. Dr. Recktenwald’s technical specialties include Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Fluid mechanics, Heat transfer, Thermal management of electronic equipment, Numerical modeling, Student learning and assessment, and Inquiry-based education. Dr. Recktenald’s teaching interests primarily include the creation of an innovative, laboratory-based curriculum for thermal and fluid sciences at the undergraduate level. 

Dr. Recktenwald is the director of the annual Invention Bootcamp, which is sponsored by the Lemelson Foundation. Invention Bootcamp was created by Dr. Nathalie Neve. Dr. Recktenwald's leadership of the Invention Bootcamp is aligned with his interests in innovation, design and broadening participation in STEM careers.
