Sarah joined the Economics faculty in 2005 after relocating with her family to Portland. Prior to working at PSU, she was a member of the Economics faculty and Director of International Programs for the Goddard School of Business and Economics at Weber State University in Ogden, UT. She received a Ph.D. in Economics from University of Oregon in 1989 and a B.A. in economics from Cambridge University, UK in 1982.  She has also served as a Senior Economic Analyst at the Department of Health in London, UK.

Sarah enjoys teaching Public and Private Investment Analysis (Engineering Economics), International Economics, and Women in the Economy. One of her favorite parts of teaching is viewing the company study presentations in Public and Private Investment Analysis and reading the country studies from the students in International Economics. In Women in the Economy, students are introduced to labor economics and theories of wage differences. They also learn to apply economic research into labor market outcomes to their own job search. Labor economics makes transparent the unwritten rules for job market success that may serve as barriers to first generation college students.

Sarah has published in the areas of healthcare disparities, factor mobility, the economics of criminality, economics of education and the economics of gender.  Currently, her focus is on healthcare economics and qualitative accountancy. Her research has been published in journals including Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization, Atlantic Economic Journal, Journal of Economic Education, Health Economics, Journal of Education for Business, and Preventive Medicine.

Sarah grew up in London, England and enjoys movies, family ski days, and Tai Chi.
