In 1986 I was hired as an Associate Professor of Social Work at Portland State after years of teaching at the the School of Social Welfare at the University of Kansas.
My current research efforts are in the field of children's mental health and family support for parents raising children and young people with disabilities. I also have a strong interest in social sustainability.
Travel has enriched my life through connecting me with people of other cultures, and immersion in their arts. I also volunteer with social service organizations, which is a constant learning experience.
