Message from Interim President Percy on coronavirus concerns

Dear campus community,

The spread of the coronavirus pandemic in Asia and Europe combined with new reports of isolated cases in the United States have generated understandable concerns across campus. We need to be prepared and are closely monitoring developments in our daily contacts with the Multnomah County Health Department and Oregon Health Authority.

At PSU, our Incident Management Team representing all sectors of campus is leading our efforts to coordinate preparedness, response, communications and contingencies in case the virus spreads to Portland. Members of the IMT are trained in planning and response to any potential health or safety threat to our PSU community.

We are developing detailed plans involving employee and student travel beyond our directive last month to suspend all official travel to China. We also are creating specific continuity plans for our academic units, operations, housing and day-to-day business in case of disruptions. We will announce more details next week and keep you informed of developments on a regular basis.

Please know that we support all of our international students during this difficult time and encourage them to take advantage of our campus resources. The health and wellbeing of everyone at PSU is our top priority.

Thank you,

Stephen Percy
Interim President
