Get Hands-On Experience

Using our new studio space, you’ll take classes that show you the production side of the digital recording process. During your time here, you will understand how the studio environment can best be used for recording albums and other large-scale projects.

An Emphasis On Musicianship

To give your work context, you’ll be introduced to a wide range of musical styles and genres, many of which might be new to you. You’ll learn music history and performance practice with instruction in music theory and instrument study.

Grow Your Technical Expertise

You’ll learn a thorough background in music technology, working with both solo artists and ensembles, acting as a student engineer on peer projects and composing and producing your own compositions using state of the art music software and hardware. Your instruction will cover everything from microphone placement, recording techniques, studio production techniques, and how acoustics play an important role in the sonic arts.

Build Your Portfolio

Instead of traditional recitals that most music majors work towards, your culminating project as a Sonic Arts and Music Production major will revolve around your growing portfolio. The goal of this program is that every class you take gives you another opportunity to add to your portfolio’s vibrancy, from composing music to developing multimedia content.

Anwyn Willette - SAMP Area Coordinator

Anwyn Willette is an established recording engineer, producer, and arranger. Her recordings have been featured on OPB, and her work incorporating music technologies in the reconstruction and production of 19th century band music from the Aurora Colony has produced numerous new scores for concert band.
