Calendar Recognized for their “soulful and dynamic” musicality, Duo Amal has captivated audiences worldwide since bursting onto the scene in 2014. The Israeli-Palestinian pianists Yaron Kohlberg and Bishara Haroni epitomize the true meaning of Amal (hope, in Arabic). The energetic duo has curated a program of works embodying a collective dream of hope swirled in poetry and longing. The recital will begin with Schubert’s fantasy, which displays melancholic longing, followed by a potpourri of musical styles that pepper Milhaud’s Scaramouche. The Adagio from Khachaturian’s ballet Spartacus taps into a vivid love scene set in ancient Greece, while Shostakovich’s concertino displays the dissonance between the prophetic and the serene. Tying it all together is Rachmaninoff’s Suite No. 1, each movement painting musical brushstrokes from a peaceful and intimate barcarolle to a bombastic celebration.
