The School of Art + Design is honored to host the 2021-2022 Textile Arts Resident, Pilar Gallego and their work in the AB Lobby Gallery of the Art Annex Building. Pilar’s cross-disciplinary art practice is the point at which cultural codes and gender myths intersect and collide. They look into the body and its construction to unearth unconsidered potential and possibilities.
This exhibition features work from Gallego's January artist talk which is available at:
PSU Textile Arts Archive: Pilar Gallego
In conjunction with the show, there will be a community engagement event on Thursday, April 26, 4pm - 6pm. The artist invites queer, trans, and gender non-conforming PSU students of all gender expressions to discuss issues the work in the exhibition addresses, in particular how clothing and dress impact one's experience of constructing their desired identity. Topics to explore in the discussion include (but are not limited to) deviancy, disability, health, contemporary beauty ideals, gender and cultural passing, and how class and race play roles in the construct.
The show opens Thursday April 7 with a reception at 5pm and closes Friday May 6
