Portland State University and Legacy Health invite family and friends to a celebration of the life of Bobby Smallwood, a PSU student and Legacy Health security officer. Bobby was shot and killed on July 22nd, 2023, while protecting staff and patients in the hallway of the Family Birth Center at Legacy Good Samaritan Medical Center in Northwest Portland.
Bobby was an integral part of keeping the Portland State Food Pantry open for students at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic. After working at the food pantry, he took a position at Legacy Health, where he continued to put others' needs first, approaching everyone with care and kindness.
The celebration of life will be held on August 29th from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm in PSU’s Smith Memorial Student Union Ballroom. We encourage both in-person and online attendees to contribute their favorite photos of Bobby to our photo montage by emailing Aimee Shattuck at shattuck@pdx.edu.
To honor Bobby's commitment to food access and food justice, donations will be accepted for the Portland State Food Pantry. If you are able to donate non-perishable food items at the event, please bring peanut butter or cartons of oat, almond, or soy milk. If you are interested in making a financial donation in support of food access at PSU or Legacy Health, you can donate to the Food Pantry or Legacy Health in memory of Bobby.
