PSU has transformed a vacant lot into Valhowlla, downtown Portland’s only gated dog park. Opened during PSU’s recent Placemakers Exchange, the park at SW 11th and Market serves as a community “front porch” to PSU, creating a vibrant gathering space for neighbors, students, and visitors alike.

History professor Catherine McNeur is taking her "Parks & Portland" course into the field, using local green spaces as living laboratories. Students from across all majors explore the city’s evolution through walking tours and archival research, uncovering how public spaces reflect Portland’s social and cultural history.

A Portland State-led research team has developed T111, a novel compound that targets all three life-cycle stages of the malaria parasite. This discovery could lead to a single-dose treatment that clears the disease and prevents relapses, offering a powerful new tool in the global effort to eliminate malaria and save lives.
