Wildfires Accelerate Oregon Snowmelt, Portland State Study Finds

New research from PSU’s Snow Hydrology Lab reveals that forest fires cause snow in the Cascades to melt significantly faster during winter rainstorms. This loss of "cold content" in burned areas reduces the mountain snowpack's ability to store water, presenting new challenges for regional water management and flood safety.
