Portland State University's master's degree in Early Childhood: Inclusive Education and Curriculum & Instruction combines a master's degree core with a specialized focus on one of three critical areas of early childhood education.

Taught jointly by the Curriculum and Instruction and Special Education departments from Portland State's nationally ranked College of Education, our early childhood master's degree will empower you to advance into leadership roles in early childhood education.

You'll choose one of three concentrations in our Early Childhood master's degree program:

  • Constructivism in Early Childhood: Grounded in the works of Jean Piaget and Lev Vygotsky, the Constructivist specialization explores how children's interaction with their world shapes their learning.
  • Infant/Toddler Mental Health: Examine the most up-to-date research and interventions related to children from prenatal to three years of age.
  • Early Childhood Special Education: Get the knowledge to provide services to children with special needs (ages birth through 8) and their families.
