Dr. Peyman Abbaszadeh joined the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Portland State University as an Assistant Professor in the Fall of 2023. Prior to that, he worked as a postdoctoral research associate at the Integrated Groundwater Modeling Center in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Princeton University. Dr. Abbasazdeh also served as a science collaborator in the Hydrological Sciences Laboratory of the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. Dr. Abbaszadeh’s research interests involve hydrologic science/water resources system analysis and computational modeling with an emphasis on predictive science, uncertainty analysis, data analytics, and high-performance computing. His research in general focuses on advancing understanding of the interactions between climate, hydrology, and water resources using the data sets and methods including, machine learning, remote sensing, state-of-the-art data assimilation, Bayesian inference, distributed hydrologic modeling, ensemble inference, post-processing, and multi-modeling. Dr. Abbaszadeh is also interested in studying the surface and subsurface hydrologic processes and their interactions to improve the predictability of extreme hydroclimate events under climate change. He serves as an Associate Editor for the Water Resources Research journal and is a member of the American Geophysical Union and American Meteorological Society.
