Originally from Northern California, Kathy Samsom RN (she/her) has been with PSU since 1999 as a Registered Nurse for Student Health & Counseling (SHAC). She serves as the Lab, X-Ray and Vaccine Coordinator and is responsible for daily operation of these services including direct patient care and administrative duties. She really enjoys working with college students and has a daily goal of putting the students at ease during their lab visit.
Kathy has an Associate Degree in Nursing from Sacramento City College, a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and a Master’s Degree in Nursing from the University of Missouri with an emphasis in psychiatric-mental health nursing. Kathy is licensed to perform X-Ray and serves on the JEDI Committee (Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion) at SHAC. Prior to PSU, she held a variety of roles in nursing including hospital nursing, long-term care, school nursing, college health and worked in corrections. She did travel nursing to several states and definitely says that Hawaii was her favorite!!
In her active life away from work, you’ll find Kathy happily engaged in any outdoor activity, walking, binging Netflix, volunteering in her neighborhood and spending time with her teens listening to their loud music and silly antics as they all attempt to make sense of the current state of the world.
