Professional Scope

In my role as the Director of International Special Programs, I establish strategic partnerships with global secondary schools, universities, and agencies to deliver high-impact, short-term non-credit study abroad programs at Portland State University. By leveraging collaborative relationships with PSU faculty, staff, and the broader Portland community, I design curriculum and programming tailored to the demands of an evolving global marketplace, specifically focusing on career readiness and professional development.

Background

Since joining Portland State University in 1995, I have held roles within the Department of Applied Linguistics and the Intensive English Language Program (IELP) prior to my current appointment as Director of International Special Programs. Throughout my tenure, my professional focus has been the integration and experience of international students.

How I Can Help

  • Logistical Coordination: Facilitate university-wide collaboration to support and advance non-academic program initiatives.
  • Promotional and Recruitment Support: Help promote broader PSU opportunities (such as undergraduate and graduate programs) to international students, effectively acting as an institutional recruiter.
  • Strategic Partnership Facilitation: Cultivate enduring relationships with global universities, governmental agencies, and travel bureaus, which create opportunities for broader institutional collaboration, such as future faculty exchanges, sister-city support, and long-term research cooperation.

Global & Cultural Engagement

  • Languages Spoken: German (birth language); English (fluent), Spanish (conversational)
  • Global Experience: Born and raised in Germany, lived in South America (Peru, Argentina, Bolivia and Chile) for a year, traveled extensively in Mexico, South Korea and Japan.
