Joyce Pieretti

Joyce Pieretti, Ph.D. serves as the Director for Recruitment, Diversity, and Retention at the Maseeh College of Engineering and Computer Science (MCECS) at Portland State University. In this role, Joyce manages the Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) Program, a National Science Foundation program that supports the success of historically underrepresented students pursuing Bachelor's degrees in STEM. Joyce seeks to enrich the student experience through LSAMP, Scholars for Success in STEM, and the MCECS Ambassador programs. She has also worked closely with community partners including Oregon MESA, ChickTech, and Girls, Inc. of the Pacific Northwest to support K-12 equity-minded programming. In addition to promoting diversity in the sciences, she is also interested in the role science communication plays in broadening participation in STEM. This was strengthened through her experience as an American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Mass Media Fellow at Univision, the country’s leading Spanish-language media network in 2015. Joyce earned her Ph.D. in Integrative Biology from the University of Chicago in 2016 and has worked in higher education since.
