PSU History

Dr. Geyton joined the school of social work at PSU in 2021 as an assistant professor.

Experience

Dr. Geyton has 11 years of experience in clinical/macro social work practice. She operates a private therapy practice founded on the principles of liberation and resistance. She earned her BSW from May Baldwin University in Staunton Virginia, her MSW from the University of Maryland at Baltimore, and her Ph.D. from Morgan State University in Baltimore, MD.

Academic/Research Interests

Dr. Geyton's research aims to reduce disparities in the physical, financial, and social prosperity of Black women through the exploration of resistance, social movements, and activism as vessels for collective healing. Dr. Geyton employs qualitative and quantitative methods in the exploration of Black women's activism, health, and wellbeing.

Personal Interests

Dr. Geyton is an avid wine enthusiast and enjoys going to vineyards for tastings. She enjoys learning and is especially interested in learning social histories through museums and sightseeing. Most importantly Dr. Geyton loves to travel. she is excited at the opportunity to engross herself in other cultures and cuisines and rarely declines the opportunity to do so.
