Braizahn Jones is a double bassist and educator based in Portland, Oregon. He serves as Assistant Principal Bass of the Oregon Symphony and an adjunct faculty member at Portland State University and Reed College. A graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music, he maintains an active career in orchestral performance, chamber music, and education.
Jones has performed extensively with the Philadelphia Orchestra and Seattle Symphony, as well as at Chamber Music Northwest. His festival appearances include Jackson Hole Chamber Music, the Oregon Bach Festival, Bellingham Music Festival, and the Pacific Music Institute.
An educator with an international presence, Jones has served on the faculty of the National Orchestral Institute since 2019. He is the founder of Umami Bass, a double bass workshop and performance initiative dedicated to advancing double bass education and fostering musical community. Since its founding in 2024, Umami Bass has established programs in Portland and Kyoto, bringing together musicians of diverse backgrounds and experience through individual instruction, masterclasses, and collaborative study.
