PSU Chemistry Professor Named National Academy of Inventors Fellow

The National Academy of Inventors has recognized the relentless creativity and innovation of PSU Professor Rob Strongin

The National Academy of Inventors has inducted Chemistry Professor Robert Strongin into its 2022 class of fellows. Strongin is an internationally recognized organic chemist, prodigious innovator, entrepreneur, and mentor. His research explores the chemical effects of electronic cigarettes, the early detection of pancreatic cancer, and the development of drug candidates for treating heart arrhythmias and orphan disease.

Since arriving at PSU in 2007, Dr. Strongin and his research team have disclosed fourteen inventions, and his work has resulted in 13 U.S. patents. Industry partners, including multiple start-up companies launched by Strongin in collaboration with PSU's Office of Innovation & Intellectual Property, have licensed technologies developed in Strongin's lab and are either currently using those technologies in medical applications or are developing them for medical use.

Additionally, Strongin. has published 55 peer-reviewed papers, two books, and seven chapters. His manuscripts have been cited over 6,000 times.

Strongin is one of 169 distinguished inventors to be inducted into the National Academy of Inventors 2022 class of fellows. The 2022 class of Fellows will be honored and presented medals at the 12th Annual National Academy of Inventors meeting on June 27, 2023, in Washington, D.C.
