Portland State Athletics Moves into Viking Pavilion

Moving day

Portland State’s Viking Pavilion project continues to progress with the completion of the practice gym and administrative offices. That means Vikings Volleyball and Basketball are practicing in their own facility and -- for the first time ever -- the entire Vikings staff is located under one roof.

Last week, students, staff and professional movers relocated athletics administration offices from the University Center Building to the west side of the renovated Stott Center. The new space has 23 private offices, 30 open work spaces, three conference rooms and a new box office.

Viking Pavilion construction has been ongoing for more than a year. The first element completed in the summer of 2016 was the strength and conditioning facility. Areas of the equipment room, locker rooms and shower facilities are also done.

Coming this fall will be the OHSU Sports Medicine Center. As the exclusive medical provider to PSU Athletics, OHSU’s nationally-recognized sports medicine doctors and physical therapists will provide cutting edge care to PSU student-athletes.

The Viking Pavilion itself, which will house the main arena, is on schedule to open in April 2018. Viking sports teams will begin competition there in the fall of 2018. The venue can also be reserved for a wide variety of events.

The renovation is fully funded through state bonds, private donors, OHSU and student fees. Funding does not come from general operating funds or tuition dollars. The design of the new $50 million facility was created by Portland's Woofter Architecture and Sink Combs Dethlefs Architects. Fortis Construction is the general contractor.
