The Summer Business Institute (SBI) at Portland State University’s The School of Business wrapped up another exciting and impactful year — and 2025’s program was one for the books.
This year, 31 high school students from across the Portland metro area and beyond spent a full week living on campus, diving into the world of business through a dynamic mix of coursework, hands-on experiences, and professional exploration. Students earned college credit through an Introduction to Business course and engaged directly with PSU faculty, gaining insight into undergraduate academic pathways, networking strategies, and career planning — thanks to a dedicated session hosted by the SB Career Center.
Coordinating this year’s SBI was Stephani Jeronimo-Martinez, who brought remarkable energy and care to the program, ensuring every detail from housing logistics to daily programming. “Seeing these students show up curious, leave confident, and build connections with each other and with PSU was incredibly rewarding,” said Jeronimo-Martinez. “It reminded me just how powerful early exposure to higher education and business can be.”
Throughout the week, students visited prominent local organizations, including Moss Adams, LegitScript, and the Portland Trail Blazers, seeing firsthand how business principles apply across industries. The program culminated in the SBI Pitch Competition on Friday, July 18, where student teams presented bold business ideas to a panel of volunteer judges. The PSU School of Business Atrium buzzed with excitement as over 100 guests attended the closing celebration.
“Programs like SBI are essential to our mission of access and impact,” said Dr. Qing Hu, Dean of The School of Business. “We’re proud to provide young people with the tools, experiences, and encouragement to see themselves as future business leaders and entrepreneurs.”
The success of SBI 2025 wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible support of PSU staff, faculty, community partners, and the PSU Foundation, whose fundraising efforts made this opportunity accessible for all participating students.
With energy, creativity, and vision on full display, the Summer Business Institute continues to spark the next generation of changemakers.
