Textile Arts: Artist Talk with Thương Hoài Trần

The Textile Arts program at Portland State University welcomes Thương Hoài Trần to discuss their work with textiles and weaving.

Thương Hoài Trần is a Vietnamese immigrant whose background informs and influences their interdisciplinary art practice. Often using family photographs as a way to pay homage to their familial and ancestral history. Art-making processes help them to reconcile the gaps and barriers experienced by those in diasporic communities: displacement, loss of language, and generational disconnect. Trần joins Shelley Socolofsky’s Weaving: Pattern & Structure course to discuss their work incorporating imagery into textiles.
