SOU-PSU Connect: Conversations on Water, Fire & Climate

Friday May 29th 2026 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM

Join us for the inaugural session of SOU-PSU Connect, a new quarterly webinar series hosted by the Portland State and Southern Oregon University collaborative. This partnership focuses on the critical intersections of water, fire and climate, bringing together students, faculty, researchers, and community partners to share their work.

Featured Presentations

  • Lost Meadows Climate Adaptation Tool: Learn how SOU students developed a tool that applies machine learning to detect and prioritize degraded meadows for restoration across 119 watersheds in the Cascade-Siskiyou Bioregion, where shifting precipitation from snow- to rain-dominated systems makes water resilience increasingly urgent.
  • Investigating Post-Fire Snowpack Vulnerability: Sage Ebel, a PSU PhD student, will share findings from a network of low-cost open-source snow monitoring stations installed across an elevational and burn severity gradient in the Western Oregon Cascades. These empirical data provide a critical foundation for evaluating the snowpack response to combined stressors that can be difficult to resolve from remotely sensed data alone.
