Signs of the Psychic City: A Public Sign-Making Event for Downtown Portland
A project by Jordan Rosenblum and Ashley Yang-Thompson
Over the course of several days, in the corridor of Montgomery Plaza at Portland State University, the public will create a psychological portrait of downtown Portland. Participants will design wayfinding signs that name and reveal the city’s official and clandestine places, lauded architecture and forgotten landmarks, inhabitants, histories, customs, fears, joys, memories, and chance encounters. A temporary, collective installation of signposts and maps will develop, revealing the poetic entropy that constitutes the city’s underlying psychic atmosphere.
The installation will be on view from October 25th through 27th.
