PSU Textile Arts presents Hope Wang

Hope Wang is an artist and creative entrepreneur based in Chicago, IL. She who will join Shelley Socolofsky’s Weaving: Pattern and Structure class for this artist’s talk. Hope is the founding director of LMRM (“loom room”), a community weaving studio working to broaden accessibility to weaving equipment for artists in Chicago. Through LMRM, she develops events and collaborations that emphasize weaving as a contemporary art practice. Wang was also a founding organizer of Chicago Textile Week 2019 and 2021, an exposition of programs connecting textile communities throughout the city. In the studio, her artwork explores memory, loss, and longing in the ever-shifting architectural landscape. Using both material illusion and abstraction, she weaves between the melancholy and humour of a world that is constantly disappearing around us, and a world that must be constantly reimagined.
