This talk explores navigating the traditional publishing industry for writers (and aspiring writers) of history. James Masnov will discuss the process of adapting thesis work conducted during grad school into a book—an experience useful to current students and others seeking future publication of their scholarship. Masnov will also discuss his new book, an intellectual history of the judiciary that examines the philosophical antecedents of the Court's power of judicial review (the power to nullify unconstitutional laws). More than merely a legal or constitutional history—the book scrutinizes the ramifications of judicial review in the modern era and acts as a unique survey of American history through the lens of the Court.
