Fridays@1 | Rummer Development: Reviving A Legacy

Friday November 8th 2024 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM

Join architecture professionals Matthew Bunza, Aubrey McCormick, Chad Pierson, and Jason Karam as they dissect Rummer houses. Rummer houses were designed by Robert Rummer in the 1960s and 70s, bringing a bold, modernist architectural style to the Portland metro area. These homes broke away from the typical suburban designs of the era with their open floor plans, large glass walls, and indoor-outdoor living integration, making them a unique feature in local neighborhoods. Over time, Rummer homes have retained their value and appeal, remaining well-suited to modern lifestyles with their timeless design. However, they also face challenges such as water issues from their low-slope roofs and thermal inefficiencies that need updating to meet modern energy standards. The Rummer Development team is paving the way to building these homes again, incorporating modern-day sustainability, technology, and elevated building standards.

What is Friday@1?

On most Fridays at 1 p.m. during the academic term, PSU School of Architecture students and faculty gather to hear from professional designers and architects, academics, visiting artists, innovators, and students in the program. Friday@1 is a perfect way to wrap up each week of intense creativity in the studio and get inspired for the productive weekend ahead.

Free and Open to the public. All are welcome.
