Calendar Burnside Bridge occupies the geographic heart of Portland, touching all four compass quarters of the city and marking a shift in the urban grid. Due to its strategic location, the historic bridge has been selected for replacement by a structure capable of withstanding a major Cascadian seismic event that could render other crossing points of the Willamette inoperable. The Earthquake Ready Burnside Bridge (EQRB) design team includes BEAM Architects, a leading bridge design firm responsible for the design of major bridges worldwide. The presentation will look at 30 years of BEAM principals’ preceding bridge projects leading to the Burnside Bridge design. About the Presenter Keith Brownlie is an Architect and Director of BEAM Architects. BEAM is a specialist bridge design firm operating from the UK on bridges great and small globally. Recent projects range from the multi-award-winning Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge in Washington DC to the color-riot serpentine Kid’s bridge in Perth WA. Reaching further back he has led the architectural design of many notable structures such as the Forthside Bridge in Scotland, and the Gateshead Millennium Bridge in England. What is Friday@1?
