/* /*]]>*/ /* /*]]>*/ On May 25th, the Program in Creative Writing and Filament Reading Series will host a marathon reading of Theresa Hak Kyung Cha’s Dictée. Cha's book is a poetically ambiguous text embodying a nonlinear history which confronts the barriers of patriarchy, displacement, and colonization. The latter is explored through Korean, English, French, Latin, and Chinese.

The event will take place in the Park Blocks stage outside Smith Memorial Student Union (SMSU) and SMSU 294 between 2:30pm and 6pm. The plan is to use SMSU 294 as a backup location in case of weather, but also as an art gallery showcasing Cha's films and photography.

We are looking for any and all readers who would like to participate. Given the multilingual nature of the book, if you speak Korean, English, French, Latin, or Chinese, and would like to join, please reach out. We’re also looking for volunteers from the BFA and MFA programs to prepare a formal introduction to the event and Cha’s legacy, and also to help distribute information on the creative writing programs. You would not only honor the work of this prolific writer, but also represent Creative Writing! If you’re interested in joining or helping out in any capacity here is the sign up sheet.

If you have any questions about the event, please either email Alex at aldela2@pdx.edu or filamentpdx@gmail.com.
