We will read and discuss the memoir, The Distance Between Us by Reyna Grande. Throughout the memoir, the author vividly recounts her personal story of being left behind as a child in México with her siblings while her parents pursued their “American Dream” en el otro lado. Eventually, she too, embarks on the dangerous journey and life in the U.S. In addition to immigration, The Distance Between Us explores topics on family, mental health, poverty, language barriers, and harassment, many of which our PSU community members can relate to.
