Campus support services available in response to shooting incident

Dear PSU Community,

The Office of the Dean of Student Life and the Office of Human Resources would like to offer support for students, faculty and staff who may have been impacted by a shooting incident which occurred early Friday morning.

Portland Police are investigating a fatal shooting involving PSU campus police officers at approximately 1:30 a.m. One person is deceased and their identity has not been released.

We know that such incidents impact us all, and we write to provide information about resources available to all members of the PSU community.

The Center for Student Health and Counseling (SHAC) has a team of mental health professionals available to provide confidential services to any student seeking support. Students can access services by calling 503-725-2800 or by visiting SHAC during regular business hours. More information is available at SHAC.

The PSU C.A.R.E.Team/Dean of Student Life Office helps coordinate support services for students in distress and those needing assistance in navigating university resources. If you know someone who is in distress or needing this kind of support, please contact the office at 503-725-4422 or go to C.A.R.E. Team's information page.

Our campus resource centers are available for students and staff to gather to process their thoughts and feelings with others in our campus community. A list of all the campus resource centers is available at Campus Life.

For employees, our Employee Assistance Program (EAP) offers crisis counseling and up to three counseling sessions face-to-face, over the phone or online. This resource is for PSU benefit-eligible employees. More information on available services can be found at the Employee Assistance Program page. They can also be reached by calling 503-639-3009.

All areas that were closed earlier this morning due to the investigation are now re-opened.
