Jeremy Spoon is a Research Professor in the Anthropology Academic Area. Since 1997, he has been collaborating with Indigenous and rural peoples and government agencies on applied research related to local knowledge, disaster recovery, development, nature conservation, protected areas, cultural heritage preservation, and public education in Nepal, the western United States, Germany, Hawai'i, and Kenya. Dr. Spoon’s scholarship and facilitation utilizes participatory approaches and aims to operationalize outcomes in pragmatic and progressive ways, such as the integration of Indigenous knowledge into protected area governance, management, and interpretation or disaster recovery interventions by government and aid organizations.
