J. J. P. VEERMAN received his Ph.D. from Cornell University in 1986. His research centers around dynamical systems, with forays into many areas of pure and applied mathematics, as well as applications in other sciences, including the physical and social sciences. He has published around 100 peer-reviewed works in scientific journals dedicated to mathematics, physics, and engineering. He was the Joseph Meyerhoff Visiting Professor at the Weizmann Institute in Israel and the Gorenstein Chair at CUNY, NY. He also held long term visiting positions in the U.S. (Rockefeller University, Stony Brook University, Georgia Tech, Penn State), as well as in Spain (Automa Madrid, Autonoma Barcelona, Granada), Brazil (IMPA, PUC-Rio, UFPe), Italy (Pisa, Salerno), and Greece (Univ. of Crete). He has been at Portland State University since 2000, where he is Professor of Mathematics, Professor and Director of Complex Systems, and affiliate Professor of Physics. In 2018, he was offered Fulbright-Czech Distinguished Chair for the academic year 2019/2020.
