Background
Linda Golaszewski is the faculty coordinator for the five specializations in the MPA and teaches courses in nonprofit management. She has taught PA 522 Governance of the Nonprofit Board, PA 526 Strategic Planning (focused on Nonprofit Organizations) and PA 527 Managing New/Emerging Organizations She has worked and studied nonprofit organizations focusing on governance and leadership issues since the beginning of her career and served as the Interim Director of the Institute for Nonprofit Management/Center for Public Service.
She has coordinated cross-cultural programs, including the training of Taiwanese NGO leaders at Portland State University and student exchange courses to India with Suzanne Feeney, founder of the Institute of Nonprofit Management. As the director of the Institute, she has worked with the Leadership Fellows program which provides leadership support for minority groups; she has also participated in discussion with many international groups through a partnership with the Oregon World Affairs Council. She was also instrumental in establishing an on-line Volunteer Leadership Program in collaboration with Portland State University Extended Studies. Through her work as a partner in The Planning Group, which she co-founded, she has consulted with state and local municipalities as well as national and local nonprofit organizations. Project topics have ranged from training and consulting on board governance to program planning and evaluation. Projects have included examining issues of funding equity of state sponsored projects; training on effective meeting techniques; evaluating youth serving programs; developing governance models for a statewide childcare organization and planning for an arts-focused middle-school. Ms. Golaszewski earned her B.S. from Loyola University of Chicago and her M.A. from University of Illinois.
Although not a native, she’s been around Portland long enough to remember when there was only one bridge across the Columbia, no hipsters, and many, many fewer nonprofits.
