John Eckroth, CPA, has been teaching accounting at PSU since 2008.  John has over 20 years of tax and accounting experience, working in the tax department of PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP, as a Partner in a small CPA firm in Claremont, California and later as CFO of a U.S. based subsidiary of the Spanish banking firm BBVA.

Elizabeth Almer, Ph.D. and CPA, joined the Accounting faculty of PSU in 2001.  For over a decade, Elizabeth has conducted research on the changing relationship between public accounting firms and their professional employees.  Throughout her career, she has built relationships with accounting firms regarding staffing needs and changing business models and as such, has deep and broad ties to the CPA firms that hire students.

Michelle Bertolini, attorney and CPA, has been teaching in the areas of accounting and taxation for over a decade. She has practiced in the area of taxation as both an attorney, and CPA for over 30 years. She owns a consulting firm specializing in insurance company and real estate taxation.
 
 

Tyee Carr

Tyee Carr, CPA, has been consulting with clients and teaching accounting at PSU since 2001.  Prior to that Tyee was a Tax Manager with PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP.  Tyee is currently a Shareholder with McDonald Jacobs, a local accounting and consulting firm where he runs the business advisory practice, focused on cash flow and tax planning for growth businesses.
 

Dan Eller

Dan Eller, attorney, is a shareholder in the Portland office of Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt, where he leads the firm’s Tax Practice Group.  Dan focuses his practice in the areas of tax and business law, advising clients with both transactional and controversy matters. 
 
 
 

Cass Haussermann

Cass Hausserman, Ph.D. and CPA, joined the Accounting faculty at PSU in 2014.  Before starting her Ph.D., Cass worked for KPMG’s Federal Tax Group in Chicago.  Cass conducts research primarily in behavioral tax, exploring the effects of various practices and policies on taxpayers.
 
 
 

Mark Hoose

Mark Hoose, attorney, is Senior Director, International Tax at Intel Corporation in northern California.  Formerly he was Managing Tax Counsel at Phillips 66, as well as Senior Tax Counsel at Occidental Petroleum.  He has also worked for three of the Big 4 accounting firms and the law firm Baker & McKenzie.  
 
 

Joleen Kremin

Joleen Kremin

Assistant Professor of Accounting

Joleen Kremin, Ph.D. and CPA, joined the Accounting faculty at PSU in 2014.  Before completing her Ph.D., Joleen worked as an auditor in public accounting.  Joleen is passionate about her research which focuses mainly on informing public accounting firms about the factors that influence their ability to attract and retain the highest quality talent.

Rob Passmore, CPA, is a Partner and Managing Director in KPMG’s Portland State and Local Tax practice.  He joined KPMG in 1993 and serves as KPMG’s State Tax Resource Network member for Oregon and Montana.  Rich analyzes state tax issues for corporations, partnerships and individuals. 
 
 
 

Bill Ramirez

William (Bill) Ramirez

Bill Ramirez, attorney and CPA, has 33 years of corporate tax experience in both domestic and international corporate settings. This experience includes mergers and acquisitions, domestic tax incentives for export transactions, and being the in-house tax auditor of a multinational company with direct responsibility for working with its IRS auditor.

Associate Professor of Accounting
Kathy Rupley, Ph.D. and CPA, joined the Accounting faculty at PSU in 2006. Prior to academe, Kathy practiced as an Audit Manager at KPMG, an accountant at Irvine & Co., a Project Manager at Two Degrees and a Medicare Auditor at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Oregon.
 
 
 
 
 

Rich Thornton

Rich Thornton

Rich Thornton, CPA, is a Partner with Moss Adams LLP, where he is the firm director of wealth services implementation.  Rich began his career with the Internal Revenue Service in 1974 and joined Moss Adams LLP in 1984.  He specializes in providing business owner succession services, dealing with business management, ownership, and estate transition planning issues.
