As a rhetoric and writing studies scholar who focuses on cultural rhetorics, technical writing, and community-engaged scholarship, my work explores how communities use writing and reading strategies to affect material change.

Specifically, recent projects focus on how texts are produced and how these texts can materially change communities through a focus on relationality and how writing teachers can encourage students to write for change.

I have worked with medical professionals, educators, and students to articulate how writing studies can better community health outcomes. This includes collaboration with community partners to develop continuing medical education credits for medical professionals, developing writing courses targeted toward medical students, and conducting qualitative clinical studies that focuses on how medical texts such as medical histories, records, referrals circulate in clinical settings.

Given that my research focuses on community-engaged projects and culturally relevant methods of communication, my teaching centers the classroom community, how students can use writing as leverage for change, and how students can use the skills they learn in my class in their respective disciplines.

My teaching, service, administration, and scholarship are demonstrative of my commitment to being an active, engaged scholar-teacher and leader.
