Briar Levit is a print designer focusing on book and publication design, including a specific interest in the developing realm of tablet books/editions. She studied at Central St. Martins College of Art and Design for her MA in Communication Design and at San Francisco State University for her BA in Graphic Design.

After a number of years as art director for Bitch: Feminist Response to Pop Culture, she remains closely connected to Bitch Media, the nonprofit organization that publishes the magazine.

Her freelance design under the name, BriarMade, includes work for clients including the Museum of Contemporary Craft, Timber Press, Counterpoint Press, Seal Press, and California State Parks, among others.

Briar's self-initiated work explored the ways in which nature is graphically visualized and communicated. In her books, Inside the Brambles and Portland Companion Walks - the latter of which was funded by a grant from the Regional Arts and Culture Commission (RACC) - she experimented with new concepts in the structure, voice and design of guide books.

Currently, Briar is at work directing and producing a feature-length documentary about the history of graphic design production after the letterpress, focusing on the phototypesetting era and the transition that occured as a result of the Digital Revolution. The film, Graphic Means, has been shown as a work-in-progress at the TypeCon and Atypl conferences of 2016. It is slated for a Winter 2016 release.

As an assistant professor in the Graphic Design program, Briar aims to help students gain, not just the technical skills needed for a successful career, but the ability to think about each design problem as one with unique concerns. This should ultimately cultivate an approach that avoids cliches and tired trends in favor of clear and befitting solutions that support the message.
