Computerworld names PSU to list of top places to work in IT

IDG’s Computerworld recognized the Office of Information Technology at Portland State University as one of the 2019 Best Places to Work in information technology, one of 100 top organizations that challenge their IT staffs while providing great benefits and compensation.

“Portland State University is excited to be recognized by Computerworld for this distinguished award for a third year running; additionally, we are very proud to have moved up and are now ranked 20th among large organizations,” said Kirk Kelly, PSU’s chief information officer. “Employees are our No. 1 value, and I am proud to work with our outstanding staff; this award is a reflection of the great work environment that PSU and OIT have created for our employees.”

OIT prides itself on its engaged, happy, and effective employees, and the quality work and customer service that follows, Kelly said.  Embracing a culture of caring, OIT is employee-focused; successful examples include a welcoming onboarding experience, flexibility in work hours and locations, an investment in professional development, and a commitment to health and wellness. Mixed with the university's passion for inclusion and diversity, community engagement, and sustainability, IT employees have found a recipe for success at PSU. The result of these efforts is a low turnover rate and high employee engagement, which act as a testament to employees’ commitment to OIT and the mission of PSU, whose motto is “Let Knowledge Serve the City.”

“The market for IT talent remains very tight, and employers continue to focus on finding and holding on to the best people," said Computerworld executive editor Ken Mingis. "Our 2019 survey shows again that the Best Places to Work in IT are dynamic organizations that provide top pay and a broad array of programs and benefits designed to make them attractive places to work. Many show that they have a commitment to training, to diversity and to improved communication and teamwork.”
