As a recovering architecture professional living in late-stage capitalism with less than 20 years before climate change makes the planet irrevocably uninhabitable for humans, Chelsea Alexandra Ross asks: Do we still need architecture? Ross will workshop an anarcho-animist approach to thinking about disciplinary tools and the material responsibility of architecture at the end of the world.
Chelsea Alexandra Ross is a multi-disciplinary artist living and working across Chicago and Yucca Valley, CA. She works through photography, writing, curation, and movement to engage with ideas and practices of ecology, sexuality, power, and all forms of liberation. She holds a Master of Art in Design criticism from the School of Architecture at UIC. While her practice is informed by architecture and design thinking, her work is more often situated within the world of art because of its elasticity and more direct connection to contemporary culture. As an active abolitionist, Chelsea has curated multiple exhibitions in collaboration with incarcerated youth in Chicago. Her photographic work and writing has been exhibited and published in Chicago and nationally. She prefers curves over corners.
