Portland State’s student chapter of the National Student Speech Language and Hearing Association (NSSLHA) is partnering with Apraxia Kids to organize the 2024 Portland Walk for Apraxia, which will take place on Saturday, October 19th, 2024, at North Clackamas Park.
Join us for a fun morning filled with music, food, activities including field games, face painting, arts & crafts, and a ceremony for our Apraxia Stars. Our 1-mile long walk is accessible for families with strollers or wheelchairs. We will start our event at 10AM with check in and registration for new walkers.
Apraxia Kids is the leading organization dedicated to supporting children with Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) and their families. CAS is a motor speech disorder that makes it challenging for children to produce the complex sequenced movements necessary for intelligible speech. The Walk for Apraxia is more than just an event; it’s a celebration of the determination and hard work that children with Apraxia put in every day to find their voices. It’s also an opportunity for local families to connect, to educate the community, and raise awareness and funds for Apraxia Kids programs. Your support will help to fund programs which uphold our belief that every child deserves a voice.
If you’re interested in participating, you can register for free on our Portland Walk for Apraxia page by clicking “Register.” We’d love for you to start a fundraising team w/ friends or join our team to make this event a success. We are also looking for people, clinics, organizations or business who would be interested in becoming a sponsor or donor to our Walk. A sponsor provides support (whether monetary or services) in exchange for recognition in our Walk. If you have someone in mind, reach out to us at nsslha@pdx.edu.
Additionally, we would love it if students and faculty can help us spread the word about the walk to clients, colleagues, families and friends. We’re eager to reach as many people as possible, especially those with children affected by CAS.
