The mid-term election of 1994, dubbed "The Republican Revolution," ushered in a new era of national politics characterized by combativeness, polarization, and a divisive style of campaigning. Thirty years later, we are still living with the consequences of that transformative election and witnessing heightened levels of the political ugliness that resulted from it. Dr. Jack Miller will give a brief lecture on the era-defining nature of the 1994 midterm election, read an excerpt from his historical novel set in that year, the story of a high stakes U.S. Senate race, and answer questions about the book, the election, and political developments in the past 30 years. ABOUT THE SPEAKER:Dr. Miller has been teaching political philosophy and American politics for over 30 years. He has held positions in such far-flung places as Romania, Azerbaijan, Mississippi, and Seattle. He is currently a Teaching Assistant Professor in the Politics and Global Affairs department at Portland State University. He is also the host and producer of The Pothole Problem podcast and author of two novels. Please RSVP here!
