PSU Ends COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement

Portland State University is no longer requiring students and employees to be vaccinated for COVID-19.

This decision was made in consultation with local public health experts and in recognition that our society continues to evolve from public mitigation to a personal health response to the virus. PSU’s vaccination policy was a critical and effective tool during the earlier stages of the pandemic to keep our community safe and healthy. As of winter term, more than 96% of students and employees were fully vaccinated.

As new COVID-19 vaccine boosters are introduced and recommended in the future, PSU will continue to strongly recommend that community members stay up to date on their vaccinations. We recognize that COVID-19 remains in our community — we can continue to work together to keep our community safe by staying home when sick and following the most recent guidelines if you test positive.

Additionally, as of April 3, 2023, and in accordance with Oregon Health Authority guidance, the Center for Student Health and Counseling (SHAC) will no longer require masks in its facilities. Masks are still available on the second floor and Dental lobbies for anyone who needs or wants one. SHAC will continue to screen patients for COVID and cold-related symptoms.

Other public health measures remain in place: SHAC offers testing and vaccine doses for students, PSU maintains enhanced HVAC filtration and air flow in buildings and masks will continue to be available at many locations across campus. “High touch” cleaning is the new standard for custodial rounds.
