As the Executive Director of Student Involvement and Assessment, Aimee Shattuck (she/her) leads Student Activities and Leadership Programs (SALP), coordinates cross-campus student leadership development initiatives, and consults and provides technical support on assessment for the division of student affairs.

Since starting as the director in 2017, SALP merged with other departments to include student media, Student Sustainability Program, and the Student Community Engagement Center. These programs, along with student organization, student government, and student-operated service advising, have worked together to organize campus-wide events and initiatives centered on student leadership and engagement. Aimee’s leadership has been instrumental in developing long-standing partnerships, collaborations, and programs.

Before coming to SALP on a 6-month interim contract (yeah, right), Aimee was the founding director of the Women’s Resource Center. Aimee originally came to Portland State as a graduate student in social work, planning to take her learning back to her home state of California. While a student she “accidentally got involved in student leadership,” as she puts it. From that first accident, she led the Women’s Resource Center from an established student group to an institutionalized department. As the first professional director, Aimee developed PSU’s first sexual assault advocacy, mentoring, and a vibrant volunteer program.

Aimee is most proud of the work she has done supporting students and seeing their impact in Portland and the wider community over more than twenty years. Besides working tirelessly for students, she loves traveling with her family, cooking, and gardening.
