Dr. Robert Paxton is a Teaching Assistant Professor in the Mechanical and Materials Engineering Department in the Maseeh College of Engineering & Computer Science at Portland State University. Dr. Paxton’s primary teaching interests are vast, spanning fluid mechanics, general mechanics (statics, dynamics), and instrumentation & measurement. He has also previously taught causes in engineering fundamentals (ethics, design), electrical fundamentals, programming (using C/C++, Arduino, and MATLAB), thermodynamics, and system modelling.

In addition to teaching, Dr. Paxton brings forward leadership and extensive quality management and accreditation experience, both locally and internationally. Industrially, Robert has worked on 3D imaging systems covering a wide range of areas from color modelling, phosphor composition and image quality metrics. As an industry consultant, Robert works as a vehicle forensic investigator which informs his current research focus on vehicle crash dynamics (specifically with an aim to increasing crash survivability). Other research interests include biomechanics, most notably surrounding Olympic weightlifting and swimming.
