Matt Kaufman joined the School of Business at Portland State University in the fall of 2016. He holds a B.A. from George Fox University, an MBA from the University of Oregon, and a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Prior to entering academia, Matt worked as an auditor for Deloitte in Portland Oregon and in corporate finance for a local manufacturing firm.

Matt teaches Accounting Information Systems and Accounting Analytics in the undergraduate program. These courses are a natural extension of his interest in the impact of information technology on the work of accounting professionals.

Matt’s research focuses on the boundaries of accounting work, as well as how those boundaries change over time. Current research projects investigate the impact of business intelligence software on the work of management accountants, the conflict between accounting and operational management around the financial value of continuous improvement initiatives, and the boundary between budgetary analysis and financial accounting in various organizational settings.

Matt is a native Oregonian who enjoys a good book, a great cup of coffee, and the (sometimes good, occasionally great) Portland Trail Blazers.
