Benefits Eligibility

Benefits vary slightly for each type of position at PSU:

  • Employees in unclassified positions (non-represented and represented by AAUP)
    • Working at least half-time for the academic year:
      • PSU pays 95% of the premiums for medical, dental and vision for the employee and their eligible dependents. Employees pay 5% of the premium cost.
  • Employees in classified positions (represented by SEIU)
    • Working at least .75 FTE:
      • PSU pays 95% of the premiums for medical, dental and vision for the employee and their eligible dependents. Employees are responsible for 5% of the premium cost. If employees choose Kaiser Deductible the cost share is 3% and PSU pays 97%.
    • Working less than .75 FTE:
      • Eligible for health benefits, but share the premium cost prorated based on hours worked. Accrue vacation, sick, and personal leave on a prorated basis.
  • Postdoctoral Scholars
    • Working at least .5 FTE:
      • PSU pays 95% of the premiums for medical, dental and vision for the employee and their eligible dependents
  • Employees in part-time faculty positions (represented by AFT) who meet eligibility please refer to the HB 2611 Benefits for Part-Time Faculty webpage.

Note: To sustain benefits an employee must remain in a benefits eligible position listed above and have 80 hours of paid time in their pay.

If an employee has less than 80 hours of pay in a pay period then benefits will end that month. A COBRA notice will then be sent. Once an employee has 80 hours of pay we will reinstate benefits effective the following month. Flexible spending accounts can not be reinstated and must complete a form to re enroll.
